How about this? How about researching a real city's budgeted revenues and expenditures? Here's how you get there: • Search the city's budget of your choice - for instance type, "city san diego ca budget" into Google • Most likely it will be a massive.pdf so wait for the download • scroll through the table of contents and find the General Fund section of the budget o List: . Sources of revenue (i.e., Property Tax, Sales Tax,.....) Dollar amount expected to be received from each revenue source (i.e., $500M from Property Tax....) Total General Fund Revenue • Appropriations (fancy government word for expenditures (fancy government word for expenses)) . In other words what are they planning on spending the revenues on? . Usually it will be listed by department such as fire, police, public works.... • Dollar amount to be spent in each of the areas. Total General Fund Appropriations • Revenues minus Appropriations equals $$$$ . Lastly - How do you think the COVID- 19 pandemic effected the city's budget? o Only rule - You can not choose City of San Diego!
