3. A physician orders Retrovir (zidovudine) 2 mg/kg/dose IVPB for a 165-lb patient. The dose is to be placed in 100 mL D5W and infused over 1 hour with a drop factor of 15 gtt/mL q4h x 24 hours. The 20-ml single-use vial of Retrovir for IV infusion 10 mg/mL must be further diluted in 5% dextrose injection to no greater than 4 mg/mL before being infused. How many mL of the reconstituted medication should be added to the D5W per dose? What is the infusion rate in milliliters per minute? How many mg of zidovudine will the patient receive in a 24-hour period? How many drops per minute will the patient receive with each dose?
