Mrs Ipergli is a 65-year old woman who presents with shortness
of
breath, weakness, and confusion - no it's not COVID!
A simple blood test shows that she is hyperglycaemic (high
blood
sugar), and her doctors now suspect problems with her
pancreatic
hormones.
1. Explain to Miss Ipergli the actions of insulin and glucagon
in the regulation of
blood glucose levels, and how one (or both) might be responsible
for her
symptoms.
2. Her doctors find that she has a pancreatic tumour requiring
pancreatectomy.
