Question #2: Centrifugal pump is pumping water from deep well which is open to the atmosphere, to a closed storage tank in which the head pressure is kept on 1 atm. The water level in the well is 5 m underneath ground level, and it remains constant. The piping system is from plastic ("smooth tube"), and its diameter is 10 cm. The equivalent length of the suction pipe is 52 m, and the equivalent length of the discharge pipe is 75 ft. The flow rate of the water in the system is 1200 and it is released from the end of the discharge pipe into the storage tank, in height of 3 m as compared to ground level. The height of the pump as compared to ground level is neglectable. Vapor pressure of the water is 2.34 KPa. liter hr
00 ينا 3 m negligible 5 m
a. Assuming efficiency of 65%, what is the engine power of the pump (in hp)? b. After a long drought, the level of the water in the well start to go down, and now is more than 5 m underneath ground level. In order to assist the pumping, a small vacuum pump was connected to the head space of the storage tank, creating head space vacuum of 0.2 atm. How low can the water in the well go down (in m, as compared to ground level), and still the pump will be able to deliver the required flow rate? c. What is the maximal NPSH manufacturer required from this pump (in ft)?
