Test number 1--Testing solubility: Small chain alcohols such as methanol, ethanol, and 2-propanol are soluble in water because of hydrogen bonding between alcohol and water. Larger alcohols such as hexanol and octanol are less soluble in water because of the increased size of the nonpolar carbon chain. For each alcohol, test the solubility by adding approximately 1 mL (20 drops) of the alcohol to about 1 mL of water in separate small test tubes. Record your observations
