You are in-charge of a bench scale research project to analyze how to break down carbon tetrachloride into chloroform. You have been told to analyze a system where 10 L/hr of carbon tetrachloride is reacted with 20% excess hydrogen gas, both at ambient temperature and pressure. The conversion of carbon tetrachloride is 93%. In order to keep the carbon-containing species from becoming volatile, you are operating your reactor at a temperature of 35 °C using a refrigeration loop. The HCI and unreacted hydrogen leave in the vapor phase. The heat capacity of liquid chloroform can be assumed constant at 114 25 J/mol K. To save energy. you are using the refrigeration loop also as a heat pump, where the heat rejected by the refrigeration loop is used to heat another experiment you are running at 75 °C. The refrigeration loop uses F? (dichiorodifluoromethane), has a compressor with 80% efficiency, and requires a 5 °C temperature ETSI Ence between hot and cold streams. 2) How much energy (in kW) must be added to or removed from the reactor in order to keep your bene! scale treatment process working? b) What mass flowrate of refrigerant must be circulating in the refrigeration loop, in kg/s? c) What is the compressor duty required to run the refrigeration loop/heat pump in kW? 2) How much heat can you supply (kJ/s) can you supply to the experiment running at 75 °C? As part of your work, you should include the following: Your mass/enthalpy table for the reaction • The cycle drawn with the diagram of the system A table of T. P. H. S, and q (quality) for the refrigerant in the cycle
