The eligible investments that may be held within each type of account are different. Withdrawals may be made at any time from an RRSP but not from a LIRA. Minimum annual withdrawals apply to LIRAS but not to RRSPS. Income is tax sheltered when earned within an RRSP but not within a LIRA.
