B. Further research has provided convincing yet limited evidence that suggests a series of SNPs in the 5'-UTR and the 3'-UTR are in strong linkage disequilibrium with the SINE insertion site, and form two distinct haplotypes, a D haplotype and an I haplotype. (a) What is a 5'-UTR and 3'-UTR? (b) In general, what is linkage equilibrium and how is related to haplotypes? (c) Would this evidence change your hypothesis in (8.A.c) above and why? Justify your answer by providing a plausible molecular hypothesis (explanation) to explain this?
