a.
A dog breeder likes yellow and brown Labrador retrievers. In an
attempt to produce yellow and brown puppies, he mates a yellow male
and a brown female. To his utter consternation, all the puppies
produced from this cross were black! Knowing that you studied
genetics during your time at Mercyhurst University, the dog breeder
asks you to explain how this is possible. Since you understand how
coat color is produced in Labs, you can determine the most likely
genotypes of both parents and of the puppies.
Genotype of the yellow male parent:
Genotype of the brown female parent:
Genotype of all of the puppies:

After explaining the results of the cross in the previous
question to your dog breeder friend, you explain that it is
possible to mate a yellow and a brown Lab in such a way that they
will produce half yellow puppies and half brown puppies. Below
indicate the genotype of both of the yellow and brown parents and
the genotypes of the yellow and brown puppies produced from this
cross.
