3. For 304 stainless steel, the maximum carbon allowed for 700°C anneal is 0.08%, and at 600°C it is 0.02%. Why the alloy would be susceptible to intergranular attack if the above carbon amounts are exceeded? Assume that 12% chromium is required to form a passive film. 4. Why ferritic stainless steel resists corrosion if it is held at 788°C for a sufficient period of time?
