I am stranded on a deserted island. I need to build a battery to power my cell phone so I can play Minecraft. I have the following materials available:
Ag electrodes, 1 M AgNO3 (aq) solution, Al electrodes, 1 M AlCl3 (aq) solution, Zn electrodes, and 1 M ZnSO4 (aq) solution. The reduction potentials are as follows:
Ag+ + e- → Ag (s) Eo (V) = +0.799
Al3+ + 3e- → Al (s) Eo (V) = -1.66
Zn2+ + 2e- - → Zn (s) Eo (V) = -0.763
I need to attain a voltage between 4 and 5 V to charge my phone. What could you construct to accomplish this?
