Your mine produces a concentrate of Ni. For the past years of
operation, you send
this concentrate to be processed in Canada. Recently a neighboring
mine said they produce
hydrogen as a by-product of their electrolysis process. The
question now becomes, given
that you have a very inexpensive source of hydrogen, how can you
use it to produce Ni
metal?
Using all appropriate Ellingham (AG-T) diagrams which scenario
would you choose:
a. Reduce the NiS directly to Ni with the H2 gas
-OR-
b. Roast the NiS, then reduce the NiO to Ni with H2
