After completing a chemistry lab, Emma and Ron realize they
forgot to complete two of the steps of their experiment and are
missing data. Ron and Emma decide to write values in the missing
spaces on their lab report that seem accurate because their
instructor assigns grades based on effort and not accuracy of the
data. What ethical issues arise from fabricating data? Is anyone
harmed when data is fabricated? Take this scenario out of the
science classroom and into a nursing setting. Would your opinion on
the ethics of the situation change if the scenario shifted to a
nurse fabricating information on a patient’s chart? What does the
Christian worldview say about the falsification of information?
