Question 1:
Waves P and Q are travelling in the same string. The
motion of wave P is given
by y(x,t) = 0.16sin(48x -
4.2t ) where x and y are
in metres, and t is in seconds. Wave
Q has twice the amplitude of P and a wavelength of 0.31
m, and is travelling in the opposite direction to P.
At t = 0, the particle at x =
0 would be at y = 0.32 if Q were the only
wave.
a) Write the equation for y(x,t) for wave
Q.
b) Write the equation for y(x,t) for the
string (i.e. the resultant of both waves).
c) What is the displacement of the particle
at x = 7.4 m at 2s?
d) What is the displacement of the particle
at x = 7.4 m at 11s?
