A 150 g block slides down a frictionless track.
a) What assumptions do you need to make so that mechanical
energy is conserved? b) Draw pictures showing the block
at the top of the hill, the bottom, and once it has slid up the
ramp. c) If the block starts from a height of 6 m, what will
be the speed of the block at the bottom of the track?
d) If the block slides up a frictionless plane inclined at an
angle of 30° compressing a spring with spring constant k = 100 N/m,
how far up the plane will the ball go? e) Draw bar
graphs showing the energy at each of the three
positions.
