SNC 101 - Measuring Voltage and Current in Electric Circuits Virtual Lab Purpose: To measure electric currents and potential differences in DC circuits using meters. Materials: batteries (2) connecting wires (6 to 8) voltmeter light bulbs (3) ammeter switch Lab A: Measuring Quantities in a Series Circuits Procedure: 1. Build a basic circuit with two batteries, one light bulb, and a switch 2. Comment on the brightness of the bulb (very bright, bright, dim). Measure the current in the circuit and record it in your data table. The ammeter must be hooked up in series within your circuit. 3. Measure the voltage across the light bulb and record it in your data table. The voltmeter must be hooked up parallel (across) the light bulb. 4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 by adding a second bulb. Comment on the brightness of the bulbs. Measure the voltage across any light bulb. 5. Repeat steps 2 and 3 by adding a third bulb. Comment on the brightness of the bulbs. Measure the voltage across any light bulb. Data Table: Current & Voltage in Series Circuits Circuit Brightness Current (A) Voltage (V) 1 bulb 2 bulbs 3 bulbs
