a 6) (10pts) You have available to you a turntable of known moment of inertia pivoted on a near frictionless bearing. A pulley attached to the top allows a string to pass over another frictionless pulley to a weight of known mass (we used such an apparatus in the unknown mass experiment). Using this turntable you must measure the moment of inertia of an irregularly shaped piece of plywood with a hole at its center of mass allowing it to be attached to the above turntable. How would you go about measuring the moment of inertia? Your answer should address the following: 1) What physical principle do you use? 2) What measurements must you make from the experimental setup in order to determine the moment of inertia of the irregular shape? Exactly what properties of the setup must be knowns? Which will be variables? 3) What equations/mathematics will you use to find the moment of inertia of the irregular shape? That is, how will you use the knowns and measurable variables to find the moment of inertia of the unknown shape.
