Need help writing up the procedure and data tables for
this:
Cobalt Levels in Drinking Water
In this experiment, you are tasked with finding the
concentration of Cobalt 2+ in an unknown solution. While Cobalt 2+
is beneficial in small quantities, ingesting too much cobalt 2+ can
lead to serious negative side effects. Therefore, it's important to
measure cobalt levels in drinking water, and the goal of this
experiment is to determine the concentration of cobalt in a sample
of drinking water.
Materials
You will use a UV-Vis spectrometer to determine the
concentration of Cobalt 2+ in a solution. You will have a 0.20 M
stock solution of
Co(NO3)2 6H2O, cuvettes, 10
mL volumetric flasks, 5 mL volumetric pipettes, and access to the
glassware cabinet. In the experiment, you will measure the
absorbance at 500 nm of six standard solutions ranging from 0.2 M
to 0.00625 M and an unknown sample. The standard solutions include
the 0.20 M stock solution and five diluted solutions prepared via
serological dilution of the stock. Using a prepared excel file, you
will use your data to create a Beer's law plot and calculate the
concentration of cobalt in the unknown solution.
