In this problem, an adiabatic air compressor will be analyzed. Assume that the inlet air conditions are 25 [°C] and 1.0 (atm) with a flow rate of 170 [m/min]. The design calls for an outlet temperature of 170 [°C]. The compressor has been streamlined and therefore its efficiency is virtually 100%. The heat-capacity constants for air is given by equation (4-4) with the following constants from Appendix C, Table C.1: A = 3.509: 1000 KB=0.575: C=0; D/(100,000 K2) - 0 Since D is so small (the smallest one in Table C.1), you may safely assume that D = o in this problem. Requirements: Please, calculate and report the following: 1. The molar flow rate of air: [mol/s] (4 pts.) 2. The outlet air pressure [kPa] (3 pts.) 3. The change in molar enthalpy: [kPa] 6 pts.) 4. The required power: [kW] (4 pts.) ...or: [hp] (3 pts.) 5. The change of entropy in the compression: [J/mol-K] (4 pts.) 6. Assume now that the compressor is not fully reversible and has a 95% efficiency instead and it is operated so that the outlet pressure is the same as before, The required power now is: [hp] (3 pts.) ... and the new outlet temperature is: [°C]
