You have to prepare a moisturising lotion that contains the following percentages of ingredients: Oil phase (25%): Methyl silicone 5% Isopropyl palmitate (C14) Glyceryl monostearate (C18) 5% Jojoba oil 2.5% Lanolin 2.5% 8% Cocoa butter 2% Emulsifier blend: Blend of 2 emulsifiers from the list below x% Aqueous phase: Preservatives 0.05% Water soluble dye 0.05% Fragrance Water remainder to make up 100% 1% In order to emulsify the oil and water phase you will have to add the correct amount and the appropriate blend of 2 emulsifiers. 1. Using the HLB system make the appropriate choice of emulsifier blend and calculate what fraction of each emulsifier you will need in the blend to meet the HLB requirements of the oil phase. In your choice of emulsifiers also bear in mind the compatibility of the emulsifiers with the oils and with each other. Glyceryl Stearate [HLB = 3.8 +1]; Lecithin (HLB = 4 + 1); Sodium Stearoyl Lactylate (HLB = 8.3 + 1] ; Ceteareth-20 (HLB = 15.2 + 1); Polysorbate 60 (HLB = 14.9 + 1); PEG-100 Stearate (HLB = 18.8 + 1) In the list of emulsifiers, you can choose glyceryl stearate or sorbitan stearātë paired with either ceteareth-20 or polysorbate 60 OR glyceryl stearate (and) PEG-100 Stearate.
