A8 m deep excavation is to be made at the site below. Gw level is at 8 m below ground. A soldier pile, wooden lagging, and pressure grouted tieback system is planned to support the wall. Soldier piles are installed at 2m horizontal spacing. Three-level tiebacks are planned, at 1.5, 3.5 m, and 5.5 m depth, inclined at 15 degrees with horizontal. Tiebacks are located on the soldier piles. Assume tributary area method. Use FHWA recommendations. f) Assuming 30 cm diameter hole for drilled soldier piles, determine the depth of embedment (m) required to prevent passive failure. Assume FS3=2.0 g) Determine the thickness (in mm) of wooden lagging needed (assume allowable bending stress of 7000 kPa) h) Determine the vertical load (kN/m) on the pile (including the weight of lagging, assume specific gravity of 0.5). i) Assuming drilled pile, determine the ultimate axial capacity of the pile for (f). j) is the bearing capacity satisfactory with a FS=3? Site 1: Soil Profile Sand 1,8 m thick, Y = 18.6 kN/m^3, o=39 deg, c=0 Sand 2, 10m thick. y = 19.4 kN/m^3,0=33 deg., c'=0 Bedrock
