QUESTION 2: 10 MARKS You are designing a plate that allows some water to go through it. A 10 cm diameter jet of water exposed to the atmosphere) with a velocity of 20m/s impinges on the plate with a hole of 5 cm diameter. The plate is at right angles to the jet of water as shown in the below Figure 2. Part of the incoming jet passes through the hole and into the atmosphere. The rest of the flow is deflected. Assume standard values for density of water (1000 kg/m3). " Fx 20 m/s → 10 cm 5 cm Figure 2. Schematic of system for Question 2. Note the positive axis convention (not to scale). a) Assuming the plate is at rest, determine the horizontal force (and its direction, noting the positive sign convention given in the figure) required to hold the plate stationary. Ensure you explicitly include the direction of this force in your final answer in 1 sentence. Provide your answer in kN. [8 MARKS] b) If the plate was moving to the right (i.e., in the direction of the positive X-axis) how would your resultant force change? [No calculations are needed, just explain in 1-2 sentences the changes in force expected and why). [2 MARKS]
