1.) A 19-mm bolt, with ultimate strength and yield strength of
83 ksi and 72 ksi respectively, has an effective stress area of
215.48 mm2, and an effective grip length of 127 mm. The bolt is to
be loaded by tightening until the tensile stress is 80% of the
yield strength. At this condition, what should be the total
elongation?

loads P equal to 150 lb. applied at a distance of r = 25 in. from
the center of the bar. The material of the bar is C1030 with a
yield stress Sy = 51 ksi in tension. Based on a factor of safety of
