Problem 1: (30 points) A flat plate 1 m long and 2 m wide is placed in a water flow of 1 m/s, with p = 1000 kg/m² and dynamic viscosity of u=0.001 Pa.s. (a) What is the flow regime on the plate? laminar flow regime only, or turbulent flow regime only, or laminar followed by turbulent flow regime? Explain your reason by some calculations. (b) Estimate the boundary layer thickness at the critical point. (C) Determine the overall friction drag force between water and the plate. Assume the plate is smooth.
