A multiple disc clutch is used to operate the speed regulating
gears of lathe. If the torque delivered by the clutch is 400
lbs.∙in., evaluate the number of discs are necessary and the
max. force acting on them while the clutch is in operation. Limit
the disc friction surface sizes between 5
in. and 3 in. Take the factor
of safety as 2, coefficient of friction varies from
