if a 48km metro fiber span uses fiber with attenuation
characteristic of -.25dB per km, what is the total attenuation of
the fiber?
-25*48=1200
Given a system with a 2mw light source, 2dB coupling loss, 12 dB
fiber loss, and 0.5 dB loss in each of 4 connectors, what is the
power at the receiver in dBm? (Hint: convert the light source to
dBm, then subtract the losses.)
(10Log10(2mW))=3.010dBm
In the above system, what is the power attenuation margin (in
dB) if the optical receiver sensitivity is -20dBm? Is
this margin sufficient?
