Question 3 (27 marks) = a. A power system has four generating units available to supply a peak load of 200 MW. The heat rate curves of Fuel (GJ/hr) vs Power (MW) are given by the following: F, = 100+ 7.5P, +0.10P;? F2 = 200+ 8.0P2 +0.05P2? F3 = 80 + 6.0P3 +0.10P; F4 = 300 -0.4P4 +0.05P; Fi is the fuel consumption and P; is the output power in MW of the ith generator (i = 1, 2, 3, 4). i. Distinguish between unit commitment and economic dispatch. [2 marks] The cost of fuel is $5.00 per GJ. Each generating unit is rated at 100 MW and the peak load is sustained for two hours, calculate: ii. The incremental operating cost. iii. Output power of each generating unit. iv. The total operating cost. [16 marks]
