A- In the determination the Ion Exchanger Capacity experiment, you are provided by an anion exchanger, distilled water, balance, 0.1 M HC1, 0.1M NaOH and 0.1M NaCl. A. Determine the anion exchanger capacity (3marks) Procedure 1) Put the weighed quantity (1-2 g) of the given ion exchanger in a glass column having glass wool at the base 2) The ion exchanger is regenerated by passing looml of 0.1N NAOH 3) Then the column is washed several times with distilled water 1) After the washing is complete (which can be checked by applying a portion of pH paper to a drop of effluent or using ph.ph indicator) 2) Change in color of PH paper to blue indicates that the washing is not complete and when pH paper shows no change in color 3) Add to column 0.1 N NaCl slowly and collect the effluent in 250 ml conical flask 4) Complete replacement of OH by C1 is again checked by pH paper (shows no change in color) 5) Titrate the collect solution against 0.1N HCl adding 2-3 drop of phph indicator until disappearance of pink color Calculation Normality of HCl = 0.1N Volume of HCl consumed = Weight of anion exchanger = Capacity of anion exchanger ml - g -
