5. A 200 V, 50 Hz single-phase supply feeds the following loads: (i) fluorescent lamps tak- ing a current of 8A at a power factor of 0.9 leading, (ii) incandescent lamps taking a current of 6 A at unity power factor, (iii) a motor taking a current of 12 A at a power factor of 0.65 lagging. Determine the total current taken from the supply and the over- all power factor. Find also the value of a static capacitor connected in parallel with the loads to improve the overall power factor to 0.98 lagging.
