Question 1 - DC Machines a) A 6-pole lap wound motor is connected to a 220V D.C. supply. The armature has 600 conductors and a resistance of 1.512. The flux per pole is 25mWb. The armature current is 30A. Calculate the shaft speed and torque. (5 marks) b) Describe, with the aid of diagrams, the construction and layout of two types of motor field coil arrangements. (6 marks) c) A 15kW separately excited D.C. generator has an armature resistance of 0.4512. When delivering full load, the output voltage is 450V. Calculate the voltage on no-load and on half-load. (7 Marks) d) A 15kW 500V D.C. shunt motor has a no-load speed of 1100rpm. If the armature resistance is 0.322, calculate what is the full-load speed if the field current remains unaltered. (7 Marks)
