“Beach Bend” park has been thinking about getting a ride for
shorter people. The park has surveyed a random sample of park goers
to gather interest for such ride. In the sample data, the variable
approve is coded as 1 if a person surveyed says that’s a good idea,
and 0 if not. One may ask whether people are more likely to
approve, if on average, they are shorter. Since the data has
information on the height of people being surveyed, one could use a
statistical test to measure whether there are differences between
the average height of those that approve and those that do not. For
such a test, one would like to have similar variation so any
results are not driven by outliers. Use the appropriate test to
determine whether those that tend to say that they like the idea do
so in part because they seem to be shorter, on average.
