Question 2 (15 marks) An experiment was performed to measure the physiological stress resulting from using hand-held chainsaws. The kickback that occurs when a chainsaw is used to cut a 10 cm thick synthetic fibre board was measured. The variable of interest is the angle (in degrees) to which the chainsaw deflected when it began to cut the board. Below are the angles of deflection recorded for five random saws from each of four different manufacturers' models. Chainsaw model A B с D 42 28 57 29 17 50 45 40 24 44 48 22 39 32 41 34 43 61 54 30 Suppose models A and D are light-weight chainsaws designed for home use. Models B and C are heavy-duty industrial types. Let A HB, C, and hd represent the mean deflection angles for models A, B, C and D respectively. Particular interest is in comparing types A and D and in comparing the light-weight types with the heavy-duty types. [3 marks] [3 marks] (a) Identify the type of experiment that produced the data. What was the number of replications in this experiment? (b) State the cell mean, classical and regression models to analyse the data. (c) Describe the parameters of each of the models and their relationship. (d) Estimate the parameters of the cell mean, classical and regression models using the data. (e) Test if the mean angle of the four types of manufacturer's models are the same. [3 marks] [3 marks] [3 marks]
