Researchers assessed negative moods in a population of U.S. college students after they had been participating in their courses for one calendar year using a remote instructional format due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Negative moods included fatigue, frustration, sadness, and anger; higher mean composite scores indicated higher levels of negative mood. The average negative mood of the population of U.S. college students participating in remote instruction for one year was 9.20. The UC administration wondered if UC students' negative mood differs from that of the population. A random sample of six UC students' negative mood scores appears below: 14, 12, 13, 12, 14, 15 Step 1: Formulate the null and alternative hypotheses.
