One season, the average little league baseball game averaged 2
hours and 43 minutes
(163 minutes) to complete. Assume the length of games follows
the normal distribution with a standard deviation of
10 minutes.
What is the completion time in which 97.5% of the games will
be finished?
Since 97.5% of the area is less than the x-value, 2.5% of the
area is above the x-value. The area under the normal curve is
0.975. To find the x-value, use technology to find the z-value
that has an area of 0.975
to its left.
The x-value corresponds to z=1.96.
I have a question about the last sentence, how can we find the z
value corresponds to z=1,96 by formula in Excel? I dont get it
yet.
Thank you.
