The largest commercial fishing enterprise in the southeastern United States is the harvest of shrimp. In a study, researchers monitored variables thought to be related to the abundance of white shrimp. One variable the researchers thought might be related to abundance is the amount of oxygen in the water. The relationship between mean catch per tow of white shrimp and oxygen concentration was described by fitting a regression line using data from ten randomly selected offshore sites. (The 'catch" per tow is the number of shrimp caught in a single outing.) Computer output is shown below. The regression equation Moan catch per tow - 5856 +97302 Saturation Dredictor doet SE Coet Constant -5856 239 - 2.4 02 Saturation 34.62 48162R09-1910 Р 0.040 0.02 (a) Is there convincing evidence of a useful linear relationship between the shrimp catch per tow and oxygen concentration density? Explain. State the null and alternative hypothesis O Hos o versus :8 > 0 OH - versus H, <0 O No 8 - versus 1,80 O No: B = 0 versus W 0 Ho: O versus 8 = 0
(b) Would you describe the relationship as strong? Why or why not? The relationship is strong. The value of the coefficient of determination is which indicates that % of the variability in catch per tow can be explained by the linear relationship between catch per tow and oxygen concentration density (c) Construct a 95% confidence interval for B. (Use a table or technology. Round your answers to three decimal places.) 1) Interpret the confidence interval You can be 95% confident that the mean change in oxygen concentration associated with an increase of 1 catch per tow is outside of this confidence interval You can be 95% confident that the catch per tow and the oxygen concentration density are unrelated to each other. You can be 95% confident that the mean change in catch per tow associated with an increase of 1 unit of oxygen concentration density is outside of this confidence interval You can be 95% confident that the mean change in catch per tow associated with an increase of 1 unit of oxygen concentration density is within this confidence interval You can be 95% confident that the mean change in oxygen concentration density associated with an increase of 1 catch per tow is within this confidence interval (d) What margin of error is associated with the confidence interval in part (c)2(Round your answer to three decimal places)
