1. (15 points) You have been commissioned to investigate whether or not the claim of a female attorney at a prominent law firm is true. The attorney claims that male attorneys are awarded more promotions than female attorneys. Suppose that you sampled 38 male attorneys who work at the firm and found that the mean number of promotions that each had received since graduation was 3-4 (with a standard deviation of o.7). You then sampled 26 female attorneys and found that the sample mean was 2.9 promotions since graduation (with a standard deviation of 0.75). Assuming that alpha is .01, test whether or not male attorneys are given more promotions than female attorneys. Be sure to include the relevant hypotheses and all steps in your calculations. Interpret your results.
