A study was conducted into the milk yield of dairy cattle. A random sample of 6 cows was taken and their milk yields (1) and the maximum daily temperature (°C) were recorded. The data are shown below:
Σα = 103 [(x – T)2 = 40.83 (x – 7)(y – ū) = 8 = Σy = 246 Σ(y - y)2 = 34 SSE = 32.43 = (a) Compute the sample correlation between milk yield and temperature and in- terpret the result. [6] (b) Find the equation of the least squares regression line and interpret the values for the intercept and slope [7]
= (c) Perform a model utility test (a = 0.05) to test whether temperature is impor- tant in predicting milk yield i.e. Ho : b = 0 vs HA: 6 + 0. Based on this do you think knowing the temperature is useful in predicting milk yield? [7] : = [Total: 20 marks]
