You have been selected to fly aboard the space shuttle Floyd en route to a newly discovered planet. As you approach your destination, your instrument panel tells you that the mass of the planet is 6.2 x 1013 kg. a) If your space shuttle weighs 4.1 x 106 kg, and you are 100,000 m away from the planet, calculate the force of attraction between your shuttle and the planet? Be sure to show all of your work. [3 Marks] b) When you are close to the surface of the new planet, you decide to jump from the spaceship to see how long it will take you to hit the surface. If the planet has a radius of 2.3 x 104 m, calculate the force of gravity on the new planet! (3 Marks) c) Miraculously, you survive the fall! (Phew!
