A proton moves with a speed of 1E5 m/s through Earth's magnetic
field, which has a value of 55E-6 m/s at a particular
location. When the proton moves eastward, the magnetic force acting
on it is directed straight upward, and when it moves northward, no
magnetic force acts on it. What is the direction of the magnetic
field?
The answer is north but when I use
the right hand rule, I get a direction that goes into the page. Can
anyone explain why.
