The minimum effective con extraction ( MEC or Ceff) in plasma for a certain antibiotic is 0.2 mg/L. The drug follows a one- compartment open model and has an apparent volume of distribution, Vd, of 42 L and a first-order elimination rate constant of k= 0.15 h-1. The dose administered by intravenous is X0 = 250 mg.
a. Calculate the concentration Co in mg/L
b. Calculate the half -life of elimination
c. Calculate the concentration at time t= 6.93 hr. One compartment,open model, first order of elimination is assumed
d. Calculate the time tdur to reach MEC or Ceff
tdur = 3.32 (t1/2) [log(Xo/Vd) -log(Cmec)]
e. What is the new tdur or t'dur for this drug if the dose were increased tenfold. to 1000 mg?
t'dur = 3.32 (t1/2)[log(Xo/vd) -log(Cmec)]
