1. (Fission) In 1938, Otto Hahn, Lise Meitner, and Fritz Strassmann identified the first fission reaction. In this reaction, Uranium-235, struck by a neutron, splits into Barium-141 and Krypton-92, plus 3 neutrons (3n). Setting aside the free neutrons, this reaction follows the reaction: Uranium (A) goes to Barium (B) plus Krypton (C): 2350 + In => 141 Ba + 92Kr +3n a) Sketch the BEN curve and locate the above nuclei on the curve. b) Determine the energy released in this reaction. c) Model this reaction with an energy-bar diagram. (A blank diagram is given on the next page.) Tip: For Part (c), set the energy scale based roughly on the binding energies. (Mass energy values will go well beyond the limits you provide. Just note their values.)
