1. In a sample of 1,000 households in a war-torn country 940 have o violent deaths, 50 have 1 violent death and 10 have 2 violent deaths. There are a total of 600,000 households in the whole country. a. Give a central estimate for the number of violent deaths in the whole country. (5 marks) b. Place a 95% confidence interval around your estimate from part a. (5 marks) c. I use my computer to simulate 20 samples, each containing 1,000 numbers with each number equalling O with probability 0.94, 1 with probability 0.05 and 2 with probability 0.01. Here are the sums of the 1,000 numbers in each of the 20 simulated samples: 65 58 66 50 65 71 80 71 75 81 59 65 70 70 86 63 70 64 67 73 Use these numbers to find an 80% confidence interval for the number violent deaths in the whole country. (10 marks) d. Here are the results from another 20 simulations but this time I have simulated samples of 500 using the same probabilities that I used in part c. 35 38 37 44 30 34 43 24 29 37 35 35 34 33 33 23 33 29 34 36 Use these numbers to find a 90% confidence interval for the number violent deaths in the whole country.
