The upside-down steel A frame shown in the following figure is to be bolted to steel beams on the ceiling of a machine room using ISO grade 8.8 bolts. This frame is to support the 20,000 N vertical load. The two bolts are size M20 x 2.5 grade 8.8 Coarse pitch bolts. The two bolts are non- permanent connections and lubricated (K=0.18). Drill 2 holes for M20 x 2.5 bolts W Given: Tensile stress area A;=245 mm², proof strength Sp= 600 MPa, bolt stiffness kb = 1,680 MN/m, member stiffness km = 4,636 MN/m. a. Determine the torque to be used to tighten the bolt. (5 points) b. Determine the factor of safety guarding against yielding, overload, and joint separation. (15 points)
