You are to model the cooling of cheese that is packaged in
cartons that are 500 mm long, 350 mm wide, and 200 mm high that
sits on shelves made of an open steel mesh. The cheese is initially
at 50°C, and air at 5°C is blown over the cartons to chill them.
Experiments have determined that the airflow over the cartons is
turbulent with velocities of 5 m/s over the top and bottom of the
cartons, 4 m/s along the sides of the cartons, and 0.3 m/s at the
front and back of the cartons.
the properties of cheese are to be taken as;
ρ 1130 kg/m3
k 0.35 W/m.K
cp 2525 J/kg.K
α 1.2267×10−7 m2/s
Plot of the temperature at the warmest point in the carton as a
function of time, calculated with the analytic method using both 4
and 1 terms in the series.
