An air conditioning system is designed for industrial process
for hot and wet summer conditions. Below are conditions:
Outdoor conditions: 300 C DBT and 75% RH
Indoor conditions: 220 C DBT and 70% RH
The amount of air supplied: 200m3/min
Cooling coil dew point temperature: 140 C.
The required conditions are achieved first by cooling and
dehumidifying and then by heating.
Find the following:
The cooling capacity of the cooling coil in KW and tons.
Bypass factor of the cooling coil.
Heating capacity of the heating coil in KW.
Use the psychrometric chart to find the above values and show the
screenshot or image of the chart.
Hints to solve: Use the psychrometric chart to solve the
numerical.
First locate point 1 and point 2 on the psychrometric chart as
per the given outdoor and indoor conditions respectively.
Locate point 3 on the saturation curve as per the coil dew point
temperature.
Join points 1 and 3.
Then draw a horizontal line from point 2 to cut line 1-3 at point
4.
Find enthalpy h at each of the points.
Find specific volume of the air at point 1 to get the mass m of the
air.
Capacity of the cooling coil is given by m(h1 – h4).
The bypass factor of cooling coil is given by (h4 – h3)/(h1 –
h3).
The capacity of the heating coil is given by m(h4 – h2)
