An automobile is to be road tested at 60 km/h on a ridged
surface which may be approximated to the sine curve shown in Figure
6(a). When the car is pushed down against its suspension and
released, the resulting motion of the car body is as shown in
Figure 6(b). Treating the car/suspension as a single degree of
freedom system with viscous damping, determine:
(a) the forcing frequency during the road test, (4 marks)
(b) the operating damping ratio in the suspension system,
(c) the steady-state amplitude of vibration transmitted through
to the car body at the test speed, and
(d) the steady-state vertical displacement of the car body as a
function of time.
