Binomial distribution with p + 1/2. Consider a box of volume V, containing No gas nolecules. Assume that each molecule has an equal probability of being anywhere in he box. Now consider a sub-volume V within the box. (a) Calculate the probability P(n) that the subvolume V contains n molecules out of the total No. What is the expected number of molecules in V, (n), in terms of No, Vo, and V? (b) What is the standard deviation, on = ((n – (n))), in the number of molecules found in the subvolume V? (c) Consider the relative variance oz/(n)2. What does this become when V « Vo? What value should we find for the relative variance as V + V and why? Does the answer to part (b) agree with this?
