A separately-excited D.C. motor is driven by a single-phase fully controlled rectifier, and draws an armature current of 16 A at a given load. The rectifier is connected to a 240 V 50 Hz supply, and the motor has an armature resistance of 0.13 12. If the motor induces a back e.m.f. of 204 V on armature, evaluate (a) the output voltage of the rectifier, and (2 marks) (b) the firing angle of the rectifier. (2 marks) If the voltage induced on the armature is kept unchanged and the motor is operating at regenerative braking, evaluate (c) the output voltage of the rectifier, and (d) the power return to the supply.
