The network administrator of Gamma Connect, an Internet Service
Provider (ISP), obtains the block 160.55.0.0/16 for business. In
order to serve its ever-increasing clientele (smaller ISPs), he
decided to create subnets from this block by assigning the subnet
prefix expressed in CIDR form as /24.
(a) Find the class of the original network address the ISP
obtained and express its subnet mask in the dotted decimal
format.
(b) How many subnets do the administrator intend to
create? Assume that the administrator is free to use the all 0’s
and all 1’s of the borrowed bits from the host part for the
subnets.
(c) How many hosts can each subnet accommodate? [Hint:
assume that the all 0’s and all 1’s are reserved as usual]
(d) Write down the network addresses of the first two
subnets.
(e) For the second subnet (i.e. subnet 1), find the
following addresses in dotted decimal format:
(i) First host address.
(ii) Last host address.
(iii)Broadcast address.
