• The project you are estimating is a 23,400 square foot parking lot with 78 parking spaces painted with white 6* lines. 6 of those parking spaces are handicap designated • They will need the handicap symbol painted and a sign installed at each parking place. • This job requires 9 arrow symbols and the words ENTRANCE and EXIT to be painted at two entrances and two exits. You know from experience that each parking stall requires about 25 LF of painted strips. • Estimate the cost of labor and equipment for pavement marking for this parking lot using the following costs. • Include the cost of the sign installation • What is the direct cost of labor and equipment for this project?
The production rates used by the company are as follows: Description Layout Paint 6 strips Paint 8* strips Paint 12" strips Paint HC symbol Paint Symbols Production Rate ,0007 mh/sf .004 mh/if .005 m/lf 2012 mble 35 mh/ea 35 mh/ea Paint Letters .12 mh/ea 1.25 mh/ea Install signs Laborer Description Layout Painter Sign installer Equipment Description Painting machine Pick up truck Hourly cost $50.00 per Hour $40.00 per Hour $45.00 per Hour Daily cost $150.00 per Day $100.00 per Day
th These hints are provided to help you if you are having trouble getting started on the assigne estimating problem 1. Organize the pertinent information by making a list of things you are going to estimat 2. Think of how long the job will take 3. Take it one thing at a time. First the layout, then the typical striping, then the handicap stalls, etc... 4. The LF of striping per space is an average. There is no need to try and adjust the number. It's simply the number of spaces x the LF per space. 5. One thing to remember is that items of work can often occur simultaneously. Say you are building 50 concrete column footings. You don't need to wait until you excavate all 50 holes before you start installing the reinforcing steel. After you have excavated, say 15 holes, you can start on the rebar. Then, after you install robaron say, 10 footings, you can start placing concrete. This will allow you to complete the footing in less time then if you did all of the item consecutively, 6. Determine how many worker hours will be required for each item. 7. Then set up your spread sheet to show each line item and the total cost for each item. 8. The production rate for the various tasks on this weeks assignment are for a crew to complete the task, not for a single worker 9. Having one sheet/tab for the OTO and a separate sheet for the estimate (like I do on my template) is best 10. Ask questions if you have them 11. Submit your assignment spreadsheet to your instructor Don't be afraid to ask questions in Discussion 3. Your classmates will have the same questions you are having
